"Write a song about the rain."
For the last 17 weeks, my Monday ritual has been to write, record, and enter a song in the Wildwood Recording Studio (Brooklyn, NY) weekly songwriting contest. Each Monday at noon they share a simple prompt and off we go. I try not to overthink it... to write, and record something in a raw state. Maybe some of these songs will evolve. Maybe I'll record some of them with full production. But there is something beautiful, sacred, and delightfully scary about taking the risk to share something before it is "finished." Most weeks I end up liking what I write. Every week I'm grateful for the prompt and the opportunity. The prompt this week was to write a song about the rain. There are plenty of well-worn metaphors in songs about the rain. I tried my best to avoid them.
Let me know what you think.
